Linear Sculptures

Linear Sculpture: Creating Art with Lines

Students will explore linear sculpture, a form of three-dimensional art that focuses on lines, movement, and space rather than solid mass. Artists like Alexander Calder and Naum Gabo pioneered this style, using wire, metal, and other materials to create dynamic, open structures that engage with light and shadow.

Inspired by their work, we will construct our own linear sculptures using plastic straws. This hands-on project will teach us about form, balance, and composition while allowing for creative experimentation with structure and movement.
